SMART PARKING SYSTEM USING ARDUINO

SMART PARKING SYSTEM USING ARDUINO

Smart Parking is a parking solution that can include in-ground Smart Parking sensors, cameras or counting sensors. These devices are usually embedded into parking spots or positioned next to them to detect whether parking bays are free or occupied. This happens through real-time data collection. The data is then transmitted to a smart parking mobile application or website, which communicates the availability to its users. Some companies also offer other in-app information, such as parking prices and locations. This gives you the possibility to explore every parking option available to you. Smart Parking and its Smart Parking Sensors can be seen as a part of smart cities. These smart cities are cities that are driven by an IT infrastructure and by using this infrastructure, cities can enhance the quality of life and improve economic development for its inhabitants. Becoming a smart city can be a good way to collect historical data in a relatively easy way. By collecting this data, cities can analyse how processes, like parking can be optimized. As a result of using Smart Parking, people who are looking to find a parking spot will find it in the most efficient way possible and companies or municipalities can optimize their parking territories. It also makes cities more liveable, safer and less congested.

Working:-

This is a parking area provided with six slots which has a gate for ENTRY and EXIT. Initially there will be 2 sensors and RFID sensor is placed near the gate. The registered users will be provided with the unique RFID card or a keychain tag which holds a unique ID meant for that particular user. Here the IR sensor which is outside the parking area and near the gate is First IR sensor and the other which is inside the parking slot and near the gate is Second IR sensor. While entering the parking system, the user will scan his card or keychain tag and his details, entry time will be uploaded to the database through NodeMCU. If the same card is scanned at the gate, the exit time will be updated. When the first IR sensor at gate is triggered it will check for empty slots available inside the parking area and if there is any slot available then the gate will open and close after it passes the second IR sensor at gate triggered, once the car enters any particular slot and it’s parked, the sensor in that respective slot will be triggered and the availability will be turned into occupied and the word FILL is printed on LCD for the respective slots. If there is no slot available when the car is near the ENTRY gate then the LCD will display “SORRY PARKING FULL”. If any car is leaving the parking slot and it goes near the gate, the second IR sensor near the gate will be triggered and then the gate will open and it closes when the car passes through the first IR sensor and the number of slots available will be updated on LCD.

Advantage of Smart Parking System:-

Smart Parking involves the use of low cost sensors, real-time data and applications that allow users to monitor available and unavailable parking spots. The goal is to automate and decrease time spent manually searching for the optimal parking floor, spot and even lot. Some solutions will encompass a complete suite of services such as online payments, parking time notifications and even car searching functionalities for very large lots. A parking solution can greatly benefit both the user and the lot owner

  • Optimized parking – Users find the best spot available, saving time, resources and effort. The parking lot fills up efficiently and space can be utilized properly by commercial and corporate entities. Reduced traffic – Traffic flow increases as fewer cars are required to drive around in search of an open parking space.

  • Reduced pollution – Searching for parking burns around one million barrels of oil a day. An optimal parking solution will significantly decrease driving time, thus lowering the amount of daily vehicle emissions and ultimately reducing the global environmental footprint.

  • Enhanced User Experience – A smart parking solution will integrate the entire user experience into a unified action. Driver’s payment, spot identification, location search and time notifications all seamlessly become part of the destination arrival process.

  • New Revenue Streams – Many new revenue streams are possible with smart parking technology. For example, lot owners can enable tiered payment options dependent on parking space location.

  • Increased Safety – Parking lot employees and security guards contain real-time lot data that can help prevent parking violations and suspicious activity. Also, decreased spot-searching traffic on the streets can reduce accidents caused by the distraction of searching for parking. Decreased Management Costs – More automation and less manual activity saves on labour cost and resource exhaustion.
